about ruth beran
I am a career storyteller.
With 20+ years’ experience telling audio, online, print and television stories, I help other people tell their own stories to achieve their career goals.
At high school though, I wanted to be an environmental lawyer. Before I even graduated from university, I was working in the legal department at the NSW Environment Protection Authority. What I discovered is that the law wasn’t creative enough for me.
So I ran away with the circus – the Shell Questacon Science Circus – and spent a year travelling Australia presenting science shows to school children.
The skills I acquired (while dressed as a superhero who couldn’t fly) allowed me to communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences. I created science and history documentaries for broadcasters like the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Radio New Zealand (RNZ). What I discovered was that everyone has a story.
So I began teaching journalism, social media and careers subjects at NSW TAFE. I worked in the career services at the College of Law, UNSW Law and AGSM@UNSW Business School. I worked in executive search specialising in higher education. I became a volunteer career coach for Dress for Success Sydney and a career consultant for Outplacement Australia and Blue Sky Career Consulting. What I discovered is that most people struggle to tell their own unique career story.
So I founded Career Storytelling to help people articulate their individual value proposition.
If you struggle to answer the common interview question: “Tell me about yourself?”, I can help you become your own career storyteller.
