career story

write your own profile

Writing a good LinkedIn About section that you are happy with can be tricky.

Particularly if you are not good at pitching yourself!

One way to get the creative juices flowing is to imagine you are writing a profile story about yourself.

You know, those profile pieces that highlight a person’s career in a magazine or a newspaper or on a news website. Think about writing one on YOU.

✍️ What would a good journalist say about you in an article?

✍️ From an outsider’s perspective, what are your career highlights?

✍️ How would a writer craft a punchy intro about you?

Sometimes putting yourself in the shoes of someone else can give you perspective – often a much better perspective! Then you can rewrite it in your own voice for your LinkedIn About section.

Another way is to think about how you would introduce yourself to someone you want to impress professionally in a conversation at a BBQ.

If you are still struggling, you might want to ask other people what they think are your career selling points.

Finally, check out how other people are writing killer LinkedIn About sections and see how you can utilise some of their techniques.
